It all started... when Stowe resident Cristina Mink and her husband, Graham, fell in love with the historic Lackey Building. Cristina had always dreamed of owning her own warm, welcoming, and cheerful store filled with unique gifts from artisans near and far. After a conscious and respectful restoration of the old general store, the doors to The Country Store on Main opened on June 10, 2016.

Stowe is a charming small town with everything travelers need to build bucket-list-worthy memories with breathtaking scenic views, world-class recreation, unique cultural experiences, and local signature flavors—all packaged together.

Stowe is located at the foot of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. In the winter, Mt. Mansfield is home to skiing and snowboarding trails at Stowe Mountain Resort, and in the summer, the resort’s ZipTour Adventure, Gondola SkyRide and Auto Toll Road offer stunning views of the Stowe Valley. With more than 45 trails, there are several scenic hikes in the area. Vermont’s historic Long Trail (LT) is one of the most popular trails that crosses over Mt. Mansfield and into Smugglers’ Notch and beyond. Built in 1910 by the Green Mountain Club—also located in the area—the LT is the United States’ oldest footpath that runs 273 miles between the Massachusetts and Canadian borders.

In the early 1940s, the von Trapp family toured the United States as the Trapp Family Singers before eventually settling in Stowe, Vermont, on an enchanted farm with sweeping mountain vistas reminiscent of their beloved Austria. In the summer of 1950, they began welcoming guests to a rustic, 27-room family home/lodge. After a devastating fire in 1980, the original structure was replaced by the new Trapp Family Lodge, a striking, 96-room alpine lodge situated on 2,600 acres offering magnificent indoor and outdoor resort amenities. The entire property is owned and operated by the von Trapp family. You can learn all about the von Trapp family history by clicking below or taking a tour while staying at the resort. Courtesy of Pineapple & Coconut

Ingredients: For the Boozy Tea

  • 8-10 Black and Orange Pekoe Tea bags

  • Amaretto

  • Frangelico

  • Bailey’s Irish Cream

  • Kaluha

  • Vanilla Coffee Creamer

  • Tea kettle full of water

  • Sweetened whipping cream - optional

Ingredients: For the Vanilla Coffee Creamer

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • ⅓ pure maple syrup

  • Seeds from 2 vanilla bean pods or 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions: For the Creamer:

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until steaming, stirring to combine everything well.

  • Let cool. Transfer to a glass jar with a lid and keep refrigerated up to 7 days.

Instructions: For the Tea:

  • Bring the water in the tea kettle to a boil. Add in the tea bags and let steep according to directions.

  • Fill each mug or glass with ½ - 1 ounce of each of the liquors - more if you want it stronger. Add in the tea and then add in a few teaspoons of the creamer. Top with whipped cream if desired and sip while hot. This is best for large coffee mugs so you don’t end up with a mug of mostly booze.  Or, maybe that works too…

Black Cap Coffee originally opened in Stowe village in 2010. It came under its current ownership in 2013. The craft beer boom in Vermont inspired them to add a beer program a few years later, transforming it into Black Cap Coffee & Beer! Their second location in Morrisville opened in the summer of 2017. They valiantly added a third location on Church St. in Burlington in February 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic. They are very optimistic about the future!
