The Soho Grand Hotel

Since opening its doors in 1996, Soho Grand has embodied the industrial sophistication that defines SoHo. With its bottle-glass staircase and towering masonry columns, the hotel seamlessly weaves together the grit of 1970s factories and lofts with the grandeur of the 1870s Gilded Age. More than just a hotel, Soho Grand is a tribute to one of New York City’s most iconic neighborhoods—a living gallery of art, artifacts, and architecture that tell the story of SoHo’s evolution. As Manhattan’s first luxury boutique hotel south of 14th Street, it’s often credited with bringing the spirit of the neighborhood indoors.

Location

Located in the heart of Manhattan’s most iconic neighborhood, Soho Grand embodies SoHo's creative energy and rich history. Just steps away from world-renowned art galleries, boutiques and restaurants.

Neighborhood

Soho Grand is an integral part of the neighborhood’s fabric, an honor taken seriously since the beginning. The commitment to community extends to the entire Soho Grand experience.

History

In the 1990s, when SoHo became a glamour capital replete with luxury shopping, restaurants, spas and art galleries, Leonard and Emanuel Stern of Hartz Mountain Industries saw what was missing: a Grand hotel.

Design

Bill Sofield, Cooper Hewitt Interior Design Award recipient and designer of retail boutiques for Tom Ford, Bottega Veneta, Yves St. Laurent and Gucci, has been collaborating with Soho Grand since its inception.

Art

Like the neighborhood itself, Soho Grand is home to a bevy of original pieces. From photographs to sculptures, some of the most influential names in the art world have contributed to the hotel's unique permanent collection.

In 1979 Edward Marshall was a photographer from NYU. Blake was living in Manhattan and working with a television casting director for TV ads. They were put together for a few days to shoot on the streets of the LES, Bowery, Soho, and numerous other places. These were the fun days of CBGB’s, and a rougher, industrial time in New York City.
