Origin & Founder

  • Founded in 1997 in Southern California by Jeff Kelley. The initial inspiration came from crafting a pair of sandals using indoor-outdoor carpet and recycled inner tubes.

  • The name "Sanuk" comes from Thai, meaning "fun"—a nod to the brand’s light-hearted, laid-back ethos.

  • In 2011, Sanuk was acquired by Deckers Outdoor Corporation (now Deckers Brands), joining a portfolio that includes UGG, Teva, Hoka, and Koolaburra.

  • In August 2024, Lolë Brands (a Canadian activewear company) acquired Sanuk from Deckers for an undisclosed amount.
