Thai Basil began as a humble, no-name business operating out of a tent at the Big Sky and Livingston farmers markets. Realizing the need for a more stable setup to store food and protect against the unpredictable Rocky Mountain weather, they had a custom concession trailer built and officially named their business Thai Basil. While they continued to work events across Montana, they spent the majority of their time at Outlaw Brewing, where they discovered a growing interest in authentic Thai food. As the seasons changed, they realized their trailer couldn't handle the extremes of hot summers and cold winters. After years of searching, they finally found their current location.

Having lived in Big Sky since 2010 as seasonal employees, they eagerly anticipated the end of each season, so they could return home and enjoy their mama’s cooking. To them, mealtime was always "family time." Growing up in a close-knit family, whether they were fighting, laughing, or crying, Mama Tran’s food was always the bond that brought everyone together.
