Origins of a Name
Tiderace began with Aled Williams, a designer with a visionary eye for sea kayaking performance. Williams had already made waves with earlier designs before striking out to create a brand entirely his own. His early kayaks bore the name “IN-UIT,” a nod to the Arctic paddling heritage that inspired much of modern kayaking. But with a sense of cultural respect, he reimagined the name as Tiderace, capturing both the dynamic power of the ocean and the adventurous spirit of his boats.

From the beginning, Tiderace kayaks were shaped by a global journey. Early production began in Poland, shifted briefly to Finland, then Thailand, before ultimately finding its home in Portugal under the expert craftsmanship of NELO, a world-class kayak manufacturer known for building Olympic racing and surf-ski boats. This partnership brought cutting-edge precision and durability to Tiderace’s already innovative designs, marrying artistry and engineering in every hull.
