The Hudson Co. | Wood Reclamation

“Every nail hole and weather check is a record of work, weather, and time. To reclaim wood is to preserve its autobiography.”

About

The Hudson Company is a custom mill in New York’s Hudson Valley specializing in reclaimed and responsibly harvested wood flooring, paneling, beams, and architectural details. Since 1995, their team of millworkers, designers, and craftspeople has built a reputation for precision milling, thoughtful finishes, and wood that carries both beauty and provenance. Every board is handled in-house—from sourcing and grading to milling and finishing—ensuring a standard of quality that has made them a trusted partner for architects, designers, and homeowners alike.

Flooring

Their portfolio ranges from wide-plank heart pine floors to weathered barn siding and structural beams, each piece chosen not only for strength and stability but also for the narrative held in its grain. With showrooms in New York City, Ridgefield, and Connecticut, and a mill in Pine Plains, The Hudson Company blends old-world craft with modern design sensibility.

History

Founded in 1995, The Hudson Company began with a vision: to rescue old timbers and planks from barns, factories, and warehouses across the Northeast and give them new life. Early projects focused on reclaimed heart pine, oak, and chestnut—woods whose tight grain and rich patina spoke of decades, even centuries, of use.

Paneling

As the company grew, so did its reach. Their wood has been chosen for landmark projects such as the High Line in Manhattan, where reclaimed teak from as far away as Hyderabad, India, was milled for decking and benches. For the Whitney Museum of American Art, they created the largest reclaimed heart pine floor in the country—275,000 board feet salvaged from industrial sites across the U.S.

Beams

Though known for high-profile work, the company remains rooted in the traditions of careful sourcing and hand milling. Alongside reclaimed materials, The Hudson Company now offers “select harvest” woods—lumber from storm-fallen or dead-standing trees—ensuring a sustainable path forward without losing the character that defines their craft.

Nearly three decades on, The Hudson Company continues to shape spaces with wood that is as honest as it is beautiful: boards that carry history forward, plank by plank.
