Classic Dry Martini

Classic Dry Martini

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ oz (75 ml) gin

  • ½ oz (15 ml) dry vermouth

  • Ice

  • Lemon twist or green olive (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Chill the glass — Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water while you mix.

  2. Mix the drink — In a mixing glass or shaker, add gin and vermouth. Fill with ice.

  3. Stir or shake — Stir for 20–30 seconds (or shake for a “Bond” style martini).

  4. Strain — Discard ice from your glass and strain the mixture into the chilled glass.

  5. Garnish — Add a lemon twist (express the oils over the drink, then drop it in) or a green olive.

Variations:

  • Extra dry: Use less vermouth (e.g., just rinse the glass or use a bar spoon).

  • Dirty martini: Add ½ oz olive brine and garnish with olives.

  • Vodka martini: Replace gin with vodka.

  • Wet martini: Use equal parts gin and vermouth or increase vermouth ratio.

  • Gibson: Garnish with a pickled cocktail onion instead of olive/lemon.
